Winter Viking Games 1999

In February of the year 1999 the Winter Viking Games were organized for the first time. Island Läntinen Pukkisaari (Helsinki, Finland) where the Iron-Age Trading Place is situated was chosen as the place of the event. Only Finnish teams took part in the competition. The first winners of the Winter Viking Games became young Vikings from the Grey Wolves team — Popo Salmelainen, Nina Talvela, Ville Virtanen and Jukka Zitting. They were fast in skiing and good in bow-shooting. This competition evoked great interest and from the year 2000 when the Russian team of the Viking-Nevo club appeared became international event.
